On this page you can see the trailers to some Bosnian films. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find more in English, but I’m working on it. You can read more about these and other Bosnian films on the website for the annual Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival in New York, which has taken place since 2003.
10 Minutes (1994), short film by Ahmed Imamović. Best short film at the European Film Awards in Rome 2002.
No Man’s Land (2001) by Danis Tanović. One of my absolute favourites, although it’s hard to watch. Winner of an Academy Award, Palme d’Or and 25 other awards. The film isn’t as funny and light as the trailer might make you think.
Grbavica (2005) by Jasmila Žbanić. Winner of the Golden Bear in Berlin. Unfortunately I’ve only been able to find a trailer in German.
I can also recommend:
The Perfect Circle (Savršeni krug) (1997) by Ademir Kenović. In the middle of the Serbs’ siege of Sarajevo two orphan boys show up on the doorstep of a poet, whose family had fled the city. Throughout the entire film he struggles to reunite them with their aunt. – Læs også mit indlæg “Gensyn med krigen”.
Days and Hours (Kod amidže Idriza) (2004) by Pjer Žalica. The film is set in a micro-universe in post-war Sarajevo, where the aftermath of the war is omnipresent.
Border Post (Karaula) (2006) by Rajko Grlić. The film is set just before the war in ex-Yugoslavia, and what touched me the most about it was the ending, because I know what happened afterwards. All those things we’ve been through but that the characters in the film had yet to face.
