How far back do you remember?

Several embassies were attacked last night in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade. The one we hear most about is the U. S. embassy, where reports say a body was found, completely charred. As was the case under Milosevic not so long ago, all citizens of Serbia were called to be good patriots and show the “wrath of the nation” – in return they got a day off school and free transportation to and from Beograd. The mob that answered the call was said to count about 200.000 persons. They carried flags and signs that said “Kosovo is ours” – as well as explosives of various sizes, judging from the photos of the burning embassies.

How is Kosovo theirs? It’s “theirs” because their ex-President Milosevic overthrew Kosovo’s government in 1989 and installed his own people. And that’s it. And, oh yeah, there are some very old monasteries scattered about Kosovo, which are being used as “proof” of the Serbs’ right to that country. This way of thinking led Serbia to destroy hundreds and hundreds of historic monuments in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990s, so as to erase any proof of our existence in our country. Had the people of Kosovo and of Bosnia-Herzegovina been the same way and had we destroyed greek-orthodox places of worship, we wouldn’t have had any trouble with the Serbs, since apparently such places of worship are all they need to claim someone else’s country. How dumb of us to be so civilized.

Another thing that makes no sense in this story is the way the Western media talks about it. They keep saying that Kosovo “broke away from Serbia” etc., where, in fact, Kosovo’s independence is just re-establishing of their right to govern their own country, their right to speak their own language, their right to work and live normal lives. By overthrowing Kosovo’s government in 1989 Serbia invaded Kosovo, and now Kosovo is free again. It’s simply going back to normal. It’s astonishing how short your average journalist’s memory is.. Now we have Serbs in Bosnia-Herzegovina talking about how they need to be “independent” from Bosnia, as if there were any similarities at all to the Kosovars’ situation.

Kosovo’s independence is going back to normal. The phantom-republic “republika srpska” within Bosnia-Herzegovina is a new invention founded on genocide, installed in 1995 and basically an award to the Serbs for murdering 250.000 Bosnians and deporting over a million – among them yours truly. How they can claim that Kosovo’s freedom is precedent for their own twisted cause…. well, it sure is consistent with the way they write history in Serbia. But what’s the Western media’s excuse?

I should think that the use of the term “break away from” happens to be due to the fact that Kosovo was/is legally a sub-unit of Serbia
Western media just doesn’t have that insight (I completely agree with you, I did not know until mere days ago that Tito had actually tried to make Kosovo an independent SR) that you may have. I would have thought you realised that by now, I must say.
