Har du fået svar på dit brev til den hollandske ambassade, og i givet fald hvad.

    Min e-mail:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

It is no less than an outrage that the Dutch soldiers who served as UN troops in Srebrenica, Bosnia-Hercegovina, in July 1995 have been awarded medals. The biggest massacre in Europe since WWII happened on their watch, taking thousands of civilian lives. Regardless of how one may interpret the Dutchbat’s role (obvious indicators as Lieutenant-Colonel Karremans’ toasting with Mladic set aside), it is an unforgivable insult to the families of the murdered to award these men after what happened. Media all over the world have expressed their disbelief at such a thoughtless move. Furthermore, a million refugees from Bosnia-Hercegovina who now live across the globe are spreading the news. I believe the Dutch governement and other relevant institutions have already recieved hundreds, maybe thousands of “congratulating” e-mails. It’s sad to think that the representatives of The Netherlands are hurting their country’s image even more instead of acting appropriately towards those who have lost their dear ones by entrusting the Dutchbat their lives.

    Sincerely,

    Amila Jasarevic

    Dear Ms Jasarevic,

In reply to your message, I would like to communicate to you the
position of the Netherlands government on this issue:

The commemorative badge which the Netherlands Minister of Defence has
presented to the members of the Dutch battalion that was operational in Srebrenica in 1995 (Dutchbat III) is an acknowledgement of the difficult circumstances under which individual soldiers had to perform theirduties. This ceremony will in no way detract from the tragedy of themass murder by Bosnian Serbs of Bosniacs from the Srebrenica enclave in 1995.

On 11 July last year, at the 10th commemoration of the massacre, the
Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations has clearly expressed the responsibility that the entire membership of the Organization bears for what happened in Srebrenica.

The Netherlands is very much aware of the great distress suffered by the families of the victims of the Srebrenica tragedy. Since 1995, the
Netherlands has made large contributions to the reconstruction and further development of Srebrenica and to the return and support of families of the victims. The Netherlands has also contributed
financially to the prosecution of war crimes and to the identification
    and commemoration of victims.

Through its large presence of military, police and judicial personnel, the Netherlands wishes to facilitate prosecuting war criminals, safeguard stability in Bosnia-Herzegovina and help to secure a better future for its citizens.

    Yours sincerely,

    Suzanne de Bekker
